NEWS – Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy informed the Legislative Council that Karnataka witnessed 2,13,192 road accidents and 60,115 fatalities in the last five-and-a-half years.

  • 2020: 34,178 accidents, 3,760 deaths
  • 2021: 34,647 accidents, 10,038 deaths
  • 2022: 39,762 accidents, 11,702 deaths
  • 2023: 43,440 accidents, 12,321 deaths
  • 2024: 39,228 accidents, 10,319 deaths
  • 2025 (till date): 21,937 accidents, 5,975 deaths

Causes of Fatalities

  • Overspeeding
  • Performing wheelies
  • Riding without helmets
  • Drunken driving
  • Higher vulnerability among youth

Departmental Efforts

  • Joint initiatives by Transport, Police, Law, and Public Works departments have contributed to reducing accident numbers in recent years.
