STATE SANCTIONS LAND FOR QUANTUM CITY IN BENGALURU

- The Karnataka government has sanctioned 6.17 acres at Hesaraghatta, Bengaluru for setting up Quantum City (Q-City).
- The land will host state-of-the-art laboratories, incubation facilities for start-ups, and infrastructure to enable academic-industry collaboration.
- It is commitment made during India’s first Quantum India Bengaluru Conclave.

Vision for Quantum Economy
- Karnataka aims to develop a $20 billion quantum economy by 2035 through focused initiatives in quantum computing.
- The Q-City is envisioned as a hub for:
- Academic institutions
- Innovation and incubation centres
- Production clusters for quantum hardware, processors, and accessories
- R&D clusters working with quantum high-performance computing (HPC) data centres
Boost to Research and Sciences
- Alongside Q-City, the government has also sanctioned 8 acres for the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS-TIFR) to support theoretical research and academic growth.
- This expansion will contribute to the second and third phases of Q-City’s development, integrating industry with advanced scientific research.
Strategic Importance
- The project reflects Karnataka’s ambition to strengthen its standing as a national and global hub for advanced science and innovation.
- Officials confirmed that the sanctioned land comes from government reserves at Hesaraghatta, with more land to be allocated in later phases.
- Currently, the project is in its infancy stage, with modalities still being worked out.
