- India test-fired nuclear-capable Prithvi-II and Agni-I missiles from the Odisha coast.
- Tests were conducted by the Strategic Forces Command, validating all technical and operational parameters.
Missile Capabilities:
- Prithvi-II:
- Range: ~350 km
- Payload: up to 500 kg
- Can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads
- Agni-I:
- Range: 700–900 km
- Payload: up to 1,000 kg
- Both missiles are integral to India’s nuclear deterrence strategy.
Akash Prime Missile Test:
- India also tested Akash Prime, an upgraded air defence system, in Ladakh.
- Designed for high-altitude performance (above 4,500 metres).
- The missile includes indigenously developed radar and frequency seekers.
Strategic Significance:
- Tests occurred two months after the May 7–10 military conflict between India and Pakistan.
- Ladakh test holds importance due to proximity to the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
- Demonstrates India’s readiness and enhanced air defence capabilities.
