BENGALURU POLICE HARNESS TECH AND DATA ANALYTICS TO CURB PROPERTY CRIMES
NEWS – Bengaluru Police have successfully reduced property-related offences by integrating cutting-edge technology, data analytics, and proactive field interventions.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Decline in Property Crimes: According to official records, property offences declined by over 10%, from 12,441 cases in 2023 to 11,089 in 2024. As of May 2025, only 3,113 cases were reported, indicating a consistent downward trend.
- Targeted Crime Categories: Crimes include motor vehicle thefts, house thefts, servant thefts, chain snatching, dacoity, and murders for gain. Notably, murders for gain dropped significantly — from 17 in 2022 to just four in 2025 (until May).
- Surveillance and Infrastructure Upgrades: Police conducted surveillance gap analyses to identify under-monitored areas. Over 442 low-light zones were mapped, prompting the installation of CCTV cameras and streetlights.
- Geotagged CCTV Network: As part of a major digital initiative, over 5.75 lakh public CCTV cameras were geotagged to the Mobile Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (MCCTNS), enabling real-time access via mobile apps for rapid incident response.
- Crime Hotspot Mapping: Using historic and real-time FIR data, police routinely identify high-risk zones to reallocate beat patrols and improve coverage.
- Smart Policing Tools: Under the Safe City project, officers use the Field Operation Platform (FOP) for live analytics, while the Modus Operandi Bureau (MOB) tracks habitual offenders. Night checks are enforced using MCCTNS and other digital tools.
- Preventive Policing: Released convicts are continuously monitored, with provisions for preventive arrests based on behavioral risk assessments.
