- Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar announced that the Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT) at Bidadi, 30 km from Bengaluru, will be India’s first AI-powered integrated township.
- Spread across 8,493 acres, the project will follow a ‘work-live-play’ model, making it Karnataka’s second central business hub.
- Estimated cost: ₹20,000 crore, with a three-year completion target.
HIGHLIGHTS
AI & Industry Focus
- Over 2,000 acres earmarked for AI-driven industries, start-ups, and ancillaries.
- Project expected to create lakhs of jobs across IT, AI, and services.
- Dedicated skilling centres planned to prepare workforce for AI-based industries.
Township Features
- Integrated spaces for residential, healthcare, education, and cultural facilities.
- 1,100 acres reserved for green spaces and parks, making it a sustainable green city.
- Inclusion of lake rejuvenation (Bairamangala Lake) with recreational facilities (₹750–1,000 crore).
Land Acquisition & Compensation
- Requires 6,731 acres of private land across 9 villages.
- Compensation aligned with RFCTLARR Act, 2013.
- Livelihood support until compensation:
- Kushki landowners – ₹30,000/acre annually
- Tari – ₹40,000/acre
- Bhagait – ₹50,000/acre
- Landless families – ₹25,000/year
- Assurance: existing habitations retained.
Connectivity & Infrastructure
- Previous failures cited poor connectivity.
- New plan: 300-m wide business corridor with a 90-m road for seamless access and zero traffic jams.
- Location advantages: close to STRR (9 km), NICE Road (11 km), Mysuru–Bengaluru Highway (5 km), Bengaluru–Dindigul Highway (2.2 km).
Funding Model
- ₹2,950 crore internal funding from BMRDA.
- ₹17,500 crore external funding via financial institutions, backed by government surety.
- Total funds: ₹20,000+ crore secured.
