RANI CHENNABHAIRADEVI: A SYMBOL OF STRENGTH

  • Rani Chennabhairadevi was the queen of Gerusoppa in present-day Karnataka and is celebrated as the longest‑reigning Indian queen, ruling for 54 years (1552–1606).
  • Referred to by the Portuguese as “Rainha de Pimenta” (“Queen of Pepper”), she protected her kingdom from colonial powers and left a legacy of inclusive, effective governance.
  • Prajavani praised her as a powerful icon of Karnataka, whose legacy continues to inspire future generations.
  • The event was organized and sponsored by Excellent Educational Institutions, Moodbidri, which President Murmu commended.
  • The release of this postal stamp marks a national tribute to a historic queen whose rule exemplified courage, secularism, and prosperity.
  • Rani Chennabhairadevi’s economic diplomacy (notably in spice trade) and social reforms earned her international recognition and modern appreciation through this commemorative gesture.
  • This act reaffirms her place in India’s historical narrative and highlights renewed efforts to honor overlooked women leaders of the past.
