- In 2024, India added 683 species to its fauna (459 new species, 224 new records) and 433 taxa to its flora (410 species, 23 infra-specific taxa).
- Kerala led in faunal discoveries (101), followed by Karnataka (82) and Tamil Nadu (63).
- In the northeast, Arunachal Pradesh (72), Meghalaya (42), and West Bengal (56) made notable contributions
- Floral discoveries were highest in Kerala (58), Maharashtra (45), and Uttarakhand (40).
- Highlights include Dravidoseps gouensis (new reptile genus) and Anguiculus dicaprioi (named after Leonardo DiCaprio).
- Key flora include rare orchids like Coelogyne tripurensis and Gastrodia indica.
