FLORA AND FAUNA IN INDIA

In 2024, India added 683 species to its fauna (459 new species, 224 new records) and 433 taxa to its flora (410 species, 23 infra-specific taxa).
Kerala led in faunal discoveries (101), followed by Karnataka (82) and Tamil Nadu (63).
In the northeast, Arunachal Pradesh (72), Meghalaya (42), and West Bengal (56) made notable contributions
Floral discoveries were highest in Kerala (58), Maharashtra (45), and Uttarakhand (40).
Highlights include Dravidoseps gouensis (new reptile genus) and Anguiculus dicaprioi (named after Leonardo DiCaprio).
Key flora include rare orchids like Coelogyne tripurensis and Gastrodia indica.
