INDIA’S ‘EDUCATE GIRLS’ WINS HISTORIC RAMON MAGSAYSAY AWARD

  • The Ramon Magsaysay Award, often called the Asian Nobel Prize, recognises outstanding leadership, selfless service, and transformative work in Asia.
  • The 67th edition of the awards will be presented on 7th November 2025 in Manila.

India Makes History:

  • Educate Girls, an Indian non-profit, has become the first Indian organisation to receive the Ramon Magsaysay Award.
  • Founded by Safeena Husain, the organisation works to educate out-of-school girls in remote villages, addressing educational and social inequalities.

Significance of the Award:

  • The award acknowledges greatness of spirit and selfless service to society.
  • Educate Girls was recognised for challenging cultural stereotyping and empowering girls through education.
  • The organisation aims to liberate girls from illiteracy, equipping them with skills, confidence, and agency to reach their full potential.

Other Awardees:

  • Shaahina Ali from Maldives and Flaviano Antonio L Villanueva from the Philippines also received the award.
  • Each awardee will receive:
    • A medallion bearing the likeness of President Ramon Magsaysay
    • A certificate with their citation
    • A cash prize
