Strategic Significance

INS Aravali will strengthen the Navy’s ability to monitor maritime traffic in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). Equipped with advanced technologies, the centre is designed to enhance command, control, and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA), providing a significant edge in naval operations.

Link with Upcoming Naval Satellites

The commissioning coincides with India’s plans to launch two new naval satellites—GSAT-7R (replacing GSAT-7 ‘Rukmini’) and a Technology Demonstration Satellite. These launches, led by ISRO, will bolster the Navy’s communication and surveillance capacities, ensuring seamless integration with platforms like INS Aravali.

Distinction from Existing Centres

While Gurugram already houses the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) and the Information Management and Analysis Centre (IMAC), INS Aravali has a distinct mandate.

• IFC-IOR: Serves as a regional maritime information-sharing hub.
• IMAC: Acts as the Navy’s principal maritime data fusion centre.
• INS Aravali: Will support and integrate these facilities, offering additional operational and communication capabilities.
