ISRO TO LAUNCH OVER 100 SATELLITES IN NEXT 15 YEARS
NEWS- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced an ambitious plan to launch 100+ satellites in the next 15 years to enhance earth observation, communication, and navigation services. This marks a significant step in India’s journey towards self-reliance in space technology and achieving the 2047 roadmap.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Expansion of Launch Capacity:
- Currently, ISRO conducts ~5–6 launches per year (max 9 in 2016).
- Aims to scale up launches significantly with private sector support.
- Satellite Applications:
- ~80 satellites dedicated to land-based applications.
- Others will focus on oceanic and atmospheric monitoring.
- Space Exploration Roadmap:
- Chandrayaan-4 & 5 (sample return missions, 2027–28 timeline).
- Chandrayaan-5 as a joint mission with JAXA.
- Chandrayaan-6, 7, 8 before India’s crewed Moon mission (2040).
- Mars lander mission also in plan.
New Launch Vehicle Development
- Lunar Module Launch Vehicle (LMLV):
- India’s heaviest rocket under construction, as tall as a 40-storey building.
- To be ready by 2035, carrying 80 tonnes to LEO and 27 tonnes to Moon.
- Designed for future lunar & human missions.
- NGLV Status:
- ISRO will not pursue NGLV; a modified LVM-3 and upcoming LMLV will meet needs, including the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS) by 2035.
Role of Private Sector
- Over 350 private space startups/companies engaged.
- Essential for innovation, hardware development, and achieving Atmanirbhar Bharat in space.
Significance for India
- Strengthens national security, communication, climate monitoring, and disaster management.
- Positions India as a global space leader.
- Supports long-term goals like human spaceflight, lunar base, and space station.
