- Union Government to map all drinking water assets, including pipelines under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), on PM Gati Shakti portal.
- Integration through a GIS-based platform aims at better planning, monitoring, and management of rural water supply.

About the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)
- Launched in 2019 with the goal to provide tap water connections to every rural household by 2024.
- Target: 17.87 crore rural households, 14.6 crore lacked tap connections initially.
- Financial allocation: Rs 3.60 lakh crore (Central: 2.08 lakh crore, States: 1.52 lakh crore).
- Service standard: 55 litres per capita per day (lpcd), BIS quality standard (IS:10500).
- Achievements so far: 6.41 lakh water supply schemes, covering 12.74 crore households; expenditure: Rs 3.91 lakh crore.
- Mission extended till 2028 with enhanced funding as per 2025 budget.
About PM Gati Shakti
- Launched in 2021, aims for holistic infrastructure planning across 16 ministries.
- Integrates Roads, Railways, Shipping, Power, Petroleum & Gas, Telecom, Aviation.
- Provides digital platform for real-time GIS-based planning, monitoring, and decision-making.
Integration of JJM with PM Gati Shakti
- DDWS signed MoA with BISAG-N for GIS integration.
- BISAG-N: autonomous body under Ministry of Electronics & IT, develops PM Gati Shakti platform.
- Features to be incorporated:
- Database design, map creation, data migration, software development, system integration.
- Advanced GIS tools: ground control surveying, digital photogrammetry, vector data capture, thematic mapping.
- Benefits:
- Optimized resource allocation, improved service delivery, accelerated rural infrastructure development.
- Seamless convergence of water & sanitation with other sectoral assets under PM GatiShakti National Master Plan.
- Pilot mapping already underway; full geo-tagging planned for all JJM assets.
