About the MERITE Scheme
- Full Form: Multidisciplinary Education and Research Improvement in Technical Education.
- Type: Central Sector Scheme.
- Objective: Enhance quality, equity, and governance in technical education, in line with NEP 2020 vision.
Target Institutions
- 275 government and government-aided technical institutions, including:
- National Institutes of Technology (NITs)
- State Engineering Colleges
- Polytechnics
- Affiliating Technical Universities (ATUs)
- State/UT technical education departments will also receive support.
Beneficiaries & Impact
- Around 7.5 lakh students to benefit from improved infrastructure, learning resources, and opportunities.
- Expected outcomes:
- Digital strategies adopted across states/UTs.
- Introduction of multidisciplinary courses.
