CONTEXT
- Government vision: Viksit Bharat@2047 – building a developed, self-reliant, inclusive India by 2047.
- Focus: Women-led development, especially among adolescent girls from underserved areas.
- Need: Skilling adolescent girls to boost employability in non-traditional sectors and reduce gender disparity in the workforce.
CONCEPT
- Name: NAVYA – Nurturing Aspirations through Vocational Training for Young Adolescent Girls.
- Target Group: Girls aged 16–18 years with minimum Class 10 qualification.
- Aim: Provide vocational training in non-traditional roles to build skills, confidence, and future opportunities.
- Collaborating Ministries:
- Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD)
- Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE)
- Implementation Framework:
- Draws on existing schemes like PMKVY and PM Vishwakarma.
- Focuses on convergence of efforts between ministries to streamline skill development initiatives.
CURRENT
- Launch Date: 24th June 2025.
- Launch Location: Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh – a backward and aspirational district, symbolic of inclusive outreach.
- Pilot Coverage:
- Implemented in 27 districts across 19 states.
- Includes aspirational districts and northeastern states, ensuring geographic and demographic diversity.
- Strategic Outcomes:
- Institutionalize convergence in skilling policies for adolescent girls.
- Bridge gender gap in vocational training and employment.
- Empower girls to become change agents in India’s socio-economic growth.
