Human migration is the movement of people from one place in the world to another.
Causes of Migration :
The causes are broadly classified as :
1) Pull factors - which attract migrant (in-migration) to an area (destination).
2) Push Factors - those that compel a person, due to different reasons, to leave a place of origin (out-migration) and migrate to some other place
In general the causes are -
- Political Issues -
- Political disturbances and inter-ethnic conflicts
- Political instability in a region
- Social issues -
- Overpopulation
- Marriage
- Better facilities like health, education etc
- Economic -
- Urbanization
- Better standards of living
- Increase in the demand for labour in urban areas coupled with better wages
- Seasonal migration for employment in different areas and different instances and industries ( Example : Rice harvest season in West Bengal and the sugar cane harvest in Gujarat)
- Environmental -
- Droughts, floods, extreme weather conditions
From the analysis of causes it is clear that migration does not happen at any particular situation. It is continuous in nature.
