• Rural Predominance: The Karnataka State Thunderstorm & Lightning Action Plan 2024-25 highlights that most fatalities occur in rural settings, affecting farmers, cattle grazers, fishermen, laborers, and children.
• Gender Disparity: Men are more susceptible due to their frequent exposure to open fields and unprotected terrains during livelihood activities.

Government Initiatives

• Preventive Strategies: The state government has devised plans focused on creating awareness, citing simple precautions like avoiding standing under trees during thunderstorms.
• Geographical Focus: Vulnerable areas have been identified based on historical lightning incidence, with a concentration observed in the north interior regions of Karnataka.
