NEWS – Railways Conducts Trial Run on Iconic Chenab Bridge

Successful Trial Run

• Event: Trial run of an eight-coach MEMU train.
• Trial Run: Conducted on the 46-km-long electrified line section between Sangaldan (Ramban district) and Reasi.
• Speed: Train ran at a speed of 40 kmph

Chenab Bridge Specifications

• Length: 1,315 meters.
• Arch Span: 467 meters.
• Height: 359 meters above river bed.
• Comparison: 35 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower.

Future Rail Services

• Impact of Trial: Paves the way for starting rail services from Reasi to Baramulla in Kashmir.
• Project: Part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.

• First Full Train Set: Crossed over the Chenab Bridge between Dugga and Bakkal stations.
