NEWS – Goa Shipyard Launches Advanced Talwar-Class Frigate ‘Triput’
BACKGROUND
- Deal Details: In October 2016, India and Russia signed a deal for four Admiral Grigorovich class frigates (Project 1135.6 class).
- Import: Two frigates (‘Tushil’ and ‘Tamal’) will be directly imported from Russia.
- Indigenous Production: Two frigates will be built in India by GSL through a transfer of technology (ToT).
FRIGATE SPECIFICATIONS
- Ship Length: 124.8 meters
- Draught: 4.2 meters
- Displacement: 3,500 to 4,000 tonnes
- Armament: Eight BrahMos or Klub anti-ship missiles
- Power: Zorya gas-turbine engines in COGAG configuration, max speed of 28 knots
- Defence System: Shtil-1 air-defence system
