NEWS – Maharshi Valmiki Award 2024 announced

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Five achievers who have rendered significant services in the upliftment of the Scheduled Castes and other various sectors have been selected for the Sri Maharshi Valmiki Award
  • Each recipient will be honored with a 20-gram gold medal and ₹5 lakh in cash, as per the announcement.

ABOUT THE ACHIEVERS

BENGALURU DIVISION: KILARI JOGAYYA  

  • From Gaddadarahatti in Challakere Taluk, Chitradurga District
  • Worked towards the protection of sacred bulls, cattle care, preservation of the local tribal community’s culture, raising awareness about the importance of cattle, and protecting cattle lineage through tribal cultural practices
  • Striving to preserve and promote the local rural lifestyle

MYSURU DIVISION: DR. RATNAMMA S.

  • Hailing from Maddur Colony in Maddur Hobli, Gundlupet Taluk, Chamarajanagar District
  • Fighting for the education of tribal children
  • Persuades communities to admit their children to schools and colleges and organizes educational programs and training sessions that support the community’s education
  • Worked to raise awareness about health protection and organized health check-up camps
  • Strived to preserve and promote the community’s arts, traditional occupations, and culture

BELAGAVI DIVISION: RAJASHEKHAR TALAWAR

  • From Gandhinagar, Belagavi
  • Raising awareness about education, health, and hygiene among tribal communities living in hilly areas with no basic amenities. He has drawn attention to these regions and worked to provide them with basic facilities, striving to bring the tribal community into the mainstream
  • He also works to secure government support for the community’s students to progress in education

BENGALURU CENTRAL: K. S. MRUTYUNJAYA

  • From Bengaluru has worked to raise awareness about educational, economic development, and skill training programs for the Scheduled Castes community, helping them access government benefits
  • He has worked towards organizing the community and engaging in activities that support the development of the tribal community

KALABURAGI DIVISION: RATNAMMA B. SOGI

  • From Harapanahalli in Vijayanagar District
  • Renowned theatre artist, especially in rural areas
  • Worked tirelessly for growth of the theatre sector in rural areas
  • Through her performances in various plays, she has raised awareness for societal good and addressed several social issues
