CRYSTAL MAZE 2
NEWS – India’s recent successful test of the new air-launched medium-range ballistic missile, known as ROCKS or Crystal Maze 2
HIGHLIGHTS
- Origin: The missile originated from Israel and underwent testing from a Su-30 MKI fighter jet in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
- Strike Range: Capable of hitting targets at a distance exceeding 250 km, making it a medium-range ballistic missile.
- Target Capabilities: Specifically designed to target long-range radar and air defense systems, enhancing India’s ability to neutralize enemy defenses.
- Versatile Warhead Options: The missile offers options for either a penetration or blast fragmentation warhead, allowing it to destroy various types of targets, including well-protected underground installations.
- Deployment Strategy: ROCKS is designed for extended stand-off range, with a deployment strategy involving release outside surface-to-air defended areas followed by a high-velocity trajectory to minimize risk to aircraft and missiles
- GPS-Denied Environments: Designed for GPS-denied environments, the missile’s capabilities are crucial for operations similar to those during the Kargil War, where precise targeting in challenging terrains is essential.
- Surface-to-Air Defense: With the ability to target surface-to-air defense systems, ROCKS provides a strategic advantage in neutralizing enemy defenses before engaging in aerial or ground operations.
