DETAILS

  • Also known as the Asian steppe wildcat/Asian wildcat
  • African wildcat subspecies
  • Occurs from the eastern Caspian Sea north to Kazakhstan, into western India, western China and southern Mongolia
  • Unique Characteristics
    • Fur is light sandy
    • Small rounded spots cover its upper body
    • Long, tapering tail, always with a short black tip, and with spots at the base
  • Status Least Concern in the IUCN Red List
  • Found in deserts and can survive without water
