INMATE REHABILITATION INITIATIVE (KARNATAKA)

 

NEWS: Karnataka Department of Prisons signed an MoU with R.V. College of Engineering (RVCE), Bengaluru to enhance inmate rehabilitation through skill-based training.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Focus on reformative justice approach.
  • Emphasis on: Skill development, Digital literacy, Technology-enabled training
  • Aim: Improve employability and ensure smooth reintegration into society.

KEY INITIATIVES

  • Establishment of 2 computer labs for: Data entry training, Basic computer courses
  • Vocational training in: Electrical work, Plumbing, Carpentry, Gardening
  • Industrial activities: Readymade garment units, Jasmine oil extraction, Soap manufacturing
  • Special initiative: Beautician course for women inmates

ADDITIONAL MEASURES

  • Expansion of prison-run bakery units
  • Proposal to set up petrol stations on prison land
  • Revenue generated → reinvested in inmate welfare & rehabilitation
