NEWS – The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has initiated the ‘Longevity India’ Initiative, focusing on extending human healthspan and addressing ageing-related challenges.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Large-Scale Clinical Study:
    • The initiative has commenced a comprehensive clinical study involving researchers from various IISc departments, clinicians, industry representatives, philanthropists, and civil society members.
  • Objective and Funding:
    • The primary goal of the initiative is to deepen the understanding of ageing through fundamental and applied research and develop solutions to enhance quality of life.
    • Initial grant funding for the initiative has been provided by Prashanth Prakash, Founding Partner at Accel India
    • The initiative aims to leverage advanced research to create interventions for more effective management of age-related diseases, emphasizing the promotion of healthy ageing nationwide.
  • Clinical Study Partnerships and Industry Support:
    • Partnerships have been formed with MS Ramaiah Hospital and Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute to conduct a clinical study for identifying ageing biomarkers.
    • Leading industry partners such as Beckman Coulter, Healthians, Valerian Proteomics, and DecodeAge are supporting the initiative by providing accessible technologies, thereby accelerating research efforts.
