NEWS: India achieved a major success in indigenous defence technology after private company NIBE Limited successfully tested the Suryastra Rocket System at Chandipur.

About Suryastra Rocket System

•        It is India’s first indigenous universal multi-calibre rocket launcher system.

•        Developed by Pune-based NIBE Limited with Israel’s Elbit Systems.

•        It is designed for precision attacks on:

o   Enemy positions

o   Command centres

o   Radar stations

o   Logistics hubs deep inside enemy territory

Important Features

Advanced Long-Range Rocket Launcher:

•        It can strike targets at long distances with high effectiveness. 

Highly Mobile System

•        Mounted on a 6x6 Tatra truck.

•        This gives it high mobility and quick movement during warfare. 

•        Multi-Target Capability: Can attack multiple targets simultaneously at different ranges.

High Precision

•        Very accurate system with Circular Error Probable (CEP) less than 5 metres.

•        CEP means the probable distance between target and actual hit point.

Technology Used

•        Based on Elbit Systems’ PULS (Precise & Universal Launching System) technology.

Modern Fire Control System

•        Integrated with:  GPS, Inertial Navigation System (INS), Digital Ballistic Computation

•        These technologies improve targeting accuracy.

Shoot-and-Scoot Capability

•        After firing, the system can quickly move away.

•        This reduces risk from enemy counter-battery attacks.

Semi-Automated Reload

•        Faster reloading process with less manual effort.
