India Energy Stack (IES): Power Sector’s UPI Moment

Why It Matters

  • Electricity in India is a concurrent subject, causing fragmentation.

  • IES seeks to digitally integrate all stakeholders—generators, distributors, regulators, and consumers—on a common interoperable digital platform.

Key Objectives

  • Digital integration of India’s fragmented power sector.

  • Enable peer-to-peer energy trading.

  • Support real-time energy demand aggregation and carbon offset compliance.

  • Enhance transparency, data sharing, and scaling of tech solutions.

Challenges Addressed by IES

  1. No unique identifiers for energy stakeholders.

  2. Absence of harmonized, real-time data.

  3. Difficulty in scaling due to proprietary platforms.

  4. Lack of interoperability across regions/discoms.

Led by Nandan Nilekani, the 17-member task force will shape the rollout roadmap.

Digital Agriculture Mission (2024)

Budget: ₹2,817 crore

Core Components

  1. AgriStack

    • Farmer ID (linked to land, animal, crop, and scheme data)

    • Geo-referenced village maps

    • Digital crop sown registry

  2. Krishi Decision Support System (DSS)

    • Real-time data integration: crops, soil, weather, water.

    • Enables crop prediction, yield analysis, insurance settlement.

  3. Soil Profile Maps

    • Detailed soil maps on a 1:10,000 scale for 142 million hectares.

Leverages remote sensing, AI, and GIS to empower farmers.
