INDIA’S FIRST-EVER E-TRUCK INCENTIVE SCHEME
NEWS – Under PM Modi’s Green Transport Vision, India launches its first e-truck incentive scheme.
HIGHLIGHTS
- It is transformative initiative to reduce freight emissions and boost Make in India.
- Part of the PM e-Drive initiative, this scheme targets sustainable, net-zero freight transport by 2070.
- Diesel trucks form 3% of vehicles but contribute 42% of transport emissions.
- Upfront incentive of up to ₹9.6 lakh per e-truck provided via the Pradhan Mantri e-Drive portal.
- Applicable to N-2 (3.5–12 tonnes) and N-3 (>12–55 tonnes) truck categories under CMVR.
- Mandatory warranty:
- Battery: 5 years / 5 lakh km
- Vehicle & Motor: 5 years / 2.5 lakh km
- 5,600 e-trucks to be deployed nationwide; ₹100 crore earmarked for 1,100 trucks in Delhi.
- Incentive tied to scrapping of old polluting trucks for dual environmental benefits.
- Key beneficiaries: cement, ports, logistics, and steel sectors.
- OEMs like Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Volvo Eicher already onboard.
- SAIL to procure 150 e-trucks and ensure 15% electric fleet in two years.
- The scheme supports Atmanirbhar Bharat, cuts logistics cost, and improves urban air quality.
