BRICS LEADERS CONDEMN J&K TERROR ATTACK

  • The Rio Declaration denounced terrorism in all forms, including cross-border terrorism, safe havens, and terror financing—widely seen as an indirect reference to Pakistan.
  • BRICS urged zero tolerance and rejected double standards in countering terrorism.
  • The declaration called for finalising the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism under the UN framework.
  • PM Modi, addressing the session on peace and security, termed the attack a “direct attack on India’s soul, identity and dignity.”
  • Modi demanded sanctions on terrorists and denounced nations that support terror for political gain.
  • India used the platform to highlight the need for global unity against terrorism.
  • PM Modi proposed four key suggestions to strengthen BRICS:
  1. Reform systems to boost credibility and sustainable financing.
  2. Launch collaborative initiatives like a BRICS science repository and agri-research sharing.
  3. Build resilient supply chains for critical minerals and tech.
  4. Promote Responsible AI based on equity and innovation.
