NEWS – Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the Sigandur Bridge on July 14, 2025, across the Sharavathi river in Sagara taluk, Shivamogga district, Karnataka

HIGHLIGHTS

• At 6 km length, it becomes India’s second-longest cable-stayed bridge, after the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
• Constructed at a cost of ₹472 crore, the bridge is designed with 604 box girder segments, 164 piles, 96 cables, and four pylons.
• The bridge features a 16-meter-wide deck, including an 11-meter carriageway and pedestrian pathways on both sides.
• It connects Ambaragodlu and Kalasavalli, providing direct access to Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple and nearby villages.
• The bridge significantly reduces travel time by up to two hours, replacing an older ferry service that operated only in daytime.
• It enhances road connectivity, safety, and accessibility for pilgrims and residents.
• The project is expected to boost local tourism and economic development, especially around Sigandur and Kollur temple regions.
• This development aligns with the Centre’s focus on improving infrastructure and regional connectivity in Karnataka.
