NEWS – National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) is set to unveil the BhashaNet portal at the upcoming Universal Acceptance (UA) Day.

NIXI

  • Established in 2003 as a not-for-profit organization under the Companies Act 2013.
  • Aims to improve Internet Service Protocol (ISP) routing for domestic traffic, leading to better service quality and reduced bandwidth charges.
  • Facilitates Internet infrastructure to increase Internet penetration and adoption in India.
  • NIXI manages India’s Country Code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) .IN, delegated by the Government of India in 2004.
  • Operates the INRegistry, managing and operating India’s .IN ccTLD.
  • NIXI operates as the National Internet Registry (NIR), known as the Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers (IRINN).
  • Offers Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) to enhance Internet connectivity and infrastructure.

UNIVERSAL ACCEPTANCE (UA) DAY

  • Organized annually by the Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG) and ICANN.
  • Aims to raise awareness and promote UA adoption, ensuring equal usability of domain names and email addresses across all Internet-enabled systems.
  • Enables individuals to fully utilize the Internet’s social and economic potential regardless of script, language, or character length.
  • First UA Day held on 28 March 2023, emphasizing global collaboration for a multilingual Internet and championing UA principles.
