Every year, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is marked on December 3.

ABOUT

  • Observed to promote the rights and well-being of people with disabilities at every level of society and development
  • Aims to raise awareness of the situations of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic and cultural life.
  • Annual observance of this day began in 1992
  • Proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3
  • 2021 Theme – ‘Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible, and sustainable post-COVID-19 world’
  • In 2006, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was also adopted.
  • It aims at working towards creating equal opportunities for persons with disabilities through the implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
