Vibrant Village Programme

Why in news? Union Home Minister Amit Shah asked the border-guarding forces to use the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) for strengthening patriotic citizens in border villages .

Highlights

  • Border Security Forces through the Vibrant Village program, should make efforts towards increasing tourism in the village, making the village self-sufficient with complete facilities.
  • It helps in making frontier villages self-reliant, ensuring implementation of welfare programmes in such villages to encourage local people to stay back

About Vibrant Villages Programme

  • It has been announced in the Finance Minister’s Budget Speech 2022.
  • Programme coverage: Border villages on Northern border having sparse population, limited connectivity and infrastructure,
  • Its implementation framework, fund requirement and other modalities are being finalised
  • Implementation : Border Area Development Programme (BADP) through the State Governments/UT Administrations in habitations located within 0-10 kms.
  • Coverage states: 16 States and 2 UTs viz. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir (UT) and Ladakh (UT).
  • The annual action plans consisting of works related to village infrastructure like roads and bridges, health, education, agriculture, sports, drinking water & sanitation etc. are considered and approved as per BADP guidelines in vogue.
