Why in news? Karnataka government issues orders for implementation of Gruha Jyoti scheme

Highlights:

What is the scheme about – Free power supply with an upper limit of 200 units on the monthly average consumption of a household

Who is implementing – Karnataka power department through respective ESCOMS

Conditions

• Applicable only to domestic connections
• Power usage of up to 10 per cent more than the average monthly usage calculated will be free for the household
• Consumption of more than prescribed units will account for the net bill
• Aadhaar-linked to customer IDs becomes mandatory
• Existing power supply schemes such as Bhagya Jyothi and Kuteera Jyothi, will be merged
• If a user has one or more power connections under his name, the scheme will be applicable to only one of the connections
